Norton Man Raises Money For The Horse Trust In Memory Of His Mother

Stuart joggingStuart Gordon, 40, from Norton, North Yorkshire is hoping to raise £1,000 for equine charity The Horse Trust by running the York 10k on Sunday 31 July.

The Horse Trust, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, cares for around 90 rescued, abandoned and retired working horses, ponies and donkeys at its sanctuary in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire.

Stuart wants to raise money for The Horse Trust in memory of his mother, Jill Smith, who passed away last year.

"My mum was into horses from an early age - she was a junior show jumper and continued riding up until last year," said Stuart. "I know that my mum would be proud of me raising money to help horses and I hope I can raise lots of money for The Horse Trust."

Welham Road resident Stuart, who works as a Senior Buyer for engineering manufacturer Ham Baker Adams in York, said he enjoys jogging and wanted to set himself a target.

"I started jogging to lose weight a couple of years ago and found that I really enjoyed it. I thought it would be good to put my jogging into practice so signed up for the run. I'm hoping to manage the 10k run in under 50 minutes, which is going to be tough," said Stuart.

Susan Lewis, Fundraising Manager for The Horse Trust said: "We are so grateful to Stuart for doing this event to raise money for the charity. The money he raises will help us to continue our work with rescue cases and retired working horses."

"As this is our 125th anniversary year, we are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the charity, to ensure that we can continue caring for needy horses for the next 125 years. We hope that more people will follow in Stuart's footsteps to support our work," added Susan.

The Horse Trust depends on the support of the public to look after the rescued, abandoned and retired working horses at its sanctuary. It costs the charity around £10 per day to look after each horse at the sanctuary.
