Novartis Animal Health continues its nationwide campaign to promote the importance of pet worming at least 4 times a year.
With warm temperatures and travelling pets, the summer period can pose a greater risk of worm infections among pets.
In the UK, pet owners only treat their animals an average of 2.6 times per year1, when the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites (ESCCAP) normally recommend a minimum of four treatments annually (more depending on lifestyle and stage of life)2
Novartis Animal Health is reminding vets to be vigilant this summer against the risk of worm infections amongst patients as part of its four seasons worming campaign.
The summer can pose more risks for pets from greater exposure to parasitic worms. When the mercury rises above 16 ºC, so can the potential risk for the number of worm eggs to reach the infective stage.2 The warmer the summer, the greater the risk of exposure to eggs in this infective stage by pets and humans alike. Novartis is therefore encouraging vets to educate pet owners of the importance of regular worming to protect both the health of their pets and their families.
Under its Worm Patrol umbrella, Novartis is providing vets with the opportunity to get practical support on how to encourage owners to worm their pets more frequently. The seasonal information packs can be used to assist practices to promote regular worming throughout the year. They include waiting room and client materials, practice PR support materials and a pet owner website www.wormpatrol.co.uk. For further details about the Summer Worming Pack or the Worm Patrol Campaign, vet practices should contact their Novartis Animal Health Territory Manager.2816 views
