Vet nurse wins Petplan Pet Insurance Advisor Award

Fiona Andrew, a Vet Nurse at Tay Valley Vet Centre in Perth, has been awarded the title of ‘Petplan Pet Insurance Advisor Award 2009’ at the British Veterinary Nursing Awards 2009.

Petplan finds that more and more vet practices understand that it is important for their clients to be insured. By having a Pet Insurance Advisor allows pet owners to have a person to go to for information and to answer questions.

Ms. Andrew has been exemplarily in educating pet owners about insurance and has gone the extra mile when providing this service to customers. In fact she has illustrated her belief in pet insurance by doubling the number insured clients in her practice.

Fiona says, “When pet owners are thinking about their pet’s future, they need to consider pet insurance. An insured pet owner can explore the full range of veterinary diagnostics and treatment should their pet fall ill or be injured.”

The finalists were judged by Bonny Millar, President of the British Veterinary Nursing Association and Howard Brown, Head of Business Development at Petplan. Howard says, “At Petplan we are proud to recognise the dedication and hard work that Pet Insurance Advisors put in to give their customers informed and up-to-date advice. Fiona is a testament to this and she is a very deserving winner.”

The finalists were Wendy Wears from the Moor Cottage Veterinary Hospital in Bracknell and Alex Chapman from Four Paws in Warrington.

Wendy was nominated as one of the finalists of the PIA Award because of her commitment to the Pet Insurance Advisor scheme. She was the first person in her practice to complete the scheme and organises for staff to join the Petplan programme. Her colleagues have nicknamed Wendy ‘The Insurance Guru’ as she is always on hand for any client questions.

Alex was also nominated for her pro active approach when it comes to promoting pet insurance. She uses real life experiences to illustrate the importance of insurance to her clients and also spends time completing the practice’s claim forms so she has a good understanding of Petplan pet insurance.
