The Petplan Charitable Trust and online veterinary clinical resource specialist Vetstream have teamed up to develop an e-learning and development platform to give members of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) access to the latest educational resources to help them run their charities effectively.

The ADCH aims to promote best practice in animal welfare for dogs and cats. Its members include charities and not-for-profit rescue and rehoming organisations across the UK.  Between them, they care for the more than 250,000 animals handed into rescues every year.

The e-learning platform developed by Vetstream is called ‘ADCH Know-How’ and offers teams from ADCH member associations information, presentations and videos on key topics, including governance, fundraising and the health and welfare of dogs and cats.  Content is accessible 24/7 on a PC or smart device with recordings of lectures at the ACDH conferences in 2015, 2016 and 2017 already available, together with specially developed content from Mars Petcare on oral care.

Vetstream offers a range of digital services to the veterinary profession.  They include Vetlexicon, the world's largest online clinical veterinary reference tool, offering comprehensive, peer-reviewed digital point-of-care information on the veterinary treatment of dogs (Canis), cats (Felis), rabbits (Lapis) and horses (Equis), together with Practis, which provides advice on all aspects of practice management.   The company is a Global Educational Partner of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA).  The Petplan Charitable Trust was formed in 1994 to provide funds to promote the health and welfare of animals.

Commenting on how ADCH Know-How will help ADCH members, Management Committee Member Ms Clare Williams said: “The demands of a role in animal rescue and rehoming mean that there is little time or money for researching and attending courses. ADCH Know-How has been developed as a single source of information for ADCH members, whether they need to find out how to recruit the right volunteers, how to write a successful grant application or how to teach a dog to play. We launched the platform at the ADCH Conference in April 2017 and were delighted that members could instantly see the benefits it offered to their own organisations, enabling them not only to improve the way they run their charities, but also to improve the standard of care they give to their animals.

“The ADCH is indebted to the Petplan Charitable Trust and to the team at Vetstream for ADCH Know-How and looks forward to working with them to develop the platform in the future.”

Dr Mark Johnston, Managing Director of Vetstream, added: “We have huge respect and admiration for the work of the ADCH and its members and were delighted to link up with the Petplan Charitable Trust to offer them this great new educational resource.  Additional content will be added on a variety of subjects on a continuing basis to ensure that we are meeting the developmental needs of ADCH members.”
