£1.25m Dog And Cat Cancer Investment

A massive 800-ton steel and concrete bunker is currently under construction at the State-of-the-Art Veterinary Referral Centre a few minutes away from the M25 in Essex. VRCC who take specialist Dog and Cat referrals are installing in a 4-ton Linear Accelerator or ‘LINAC’ to offer the most advanced radiotherapy treatment to irradiate cancers.

The fully equipped Varian 600C ‘LINAC’ built in California with a 360 degree rotating head will deliver sophisticated radiotherapy treatments not readily available for Dogs or Cats in the UK or Europe. The only other older and less sophisticated machines available for Companion Animals are in Paris, Zurich and Cambridge.

The £1.25m ‘LINAC’ project, which is almost certainly the most expensive individual item of Veterinary Equipment ever installed in Europe will lead to a great advancement in the treatment of Dogs and Cats with Cancer. The team at VRCC’s purpose designed and built 10,00sq ft Centre, which opened in 2002, will have the advantage of being able to offer extensive facilities ‘on-site’ including specialist Oncological Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy making VRCC the most advanced private centre in Europe for the treatment of Cancer in Dogs and Cats.

VRCC is one of the few Veterinary Referral Centres that is staffed 24/7 by qualified Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses admitting referred Oncological, Surgical and Medical Emergencies at any time. VRCC Director Dr Susan M North, the most experienced and qualified Veterinary Oncologist in the UK is looking forward to utilising her ‘LINAC’ installation in mid 2006 and with her team being significantly able to advance the treatment of Cancers in Cats and Dogs.
