Blind Lemon Blind Lemon The VPMA (Veterinary Practice Management Association) Congress is just weeks away and with party season in full swing across the country, the VPMA are looking to liven up January too. Those arriving on Thursday evening would be well advised to plan to arrive for 7 pm as there is some great fun in store when the social programme kicks in with some hilarious entertainment as ‘Team Generation Game’ hits the boards. If you remember this old TV favourite, then you will be familiar with the format. Expect to see everything from the cuddly toy and ‘conveyor belt’, games involving dubious levels of skill and a ‘didn’t you do well’ at the end. If it’s not ringing any bells, then don’t worry – the show transcends language and cultural barriers and is sure to deliver a few belly laughs. On Friday things get serious with a stream on modern marketing, which will hit all the right buttons with presentations on websites, social networking, search engine optimisation and e-marketing. Many practices are still struggling with this new, less formal and more interactive form of communication with clients and prospective clients, so the six sessions on offer, which encompass ‘getting started’ modules and advanced techniques, may result in some real breakthroughs. The mood lightens again in the evening as a sparkling drinks reception sponsored by veterinary wholesaler, Henry Schein Animal Health starts off the evening in some style. A four course banquet sponsored by Norbrook follows, with dancing to Blind Lemon – who managed to get nearly everyone shaking their tail feathers at last year’s event. On Saturday, there is plenty of encouragement to get everyone up bright and early with a choice of three streams: choose from HR boot camp, retailing masterclasses or an impact on people session. With so much exciting content on offer, some delegates are sure to choose to flit between streams to best fit their individual needs. Last year, the event was fully booked, so it could well be time to finally make your mind up and register. Vets and nurses involved in, or thinking of becoming more involved in, the management of a veterinary business are welcome, in addition to this being an essential event for practice managers. All the information about congress is easy to find at a dedicated website www.vpmacongress.co.uk where prospective delegates can also register on line.
