Promote Good Practice In Poultry Worming

As official pressure increases to prevent the marketing of herbal and homeopathic products that claim medicinal benefits without scientific proof, Janssen Animal Health is reminding vets and merchants that Flubenvet® is a proven licensed poultry wormer with zero egg withdrawal in chickens.

To support the product and help educate poultry owners about worming, a range of point of sale material is available free of charge to stockists and includes bright, eye catching posters, leaflets and ceiling hanging mobiles.

There has been considerable disquiet in the profession about the use of herbal poultry wormers, with one recent trial demonstrating no evidence that a leading herbal poultry wormer had any effect on worm burdens in chickens. Much could be achieved by making poultry owners aware that effective products, available from their vet practice or animal health merchant, are easy to use in feed for seven days and will kill all stages of common poultry worms.

Nigel Underwood, Marketing Manager for UK, Ireland and Scandinavia at Janssen Animal Health explains that the problem is likely to be particularly acute in backyard flocks, “As worm eggs build up in soil over time, most backyard flocks are going to be at risk from parasitic worms. Many novice owners don’t realise that in using an unlicensed herbal product that they are not controlling their birds’ worm burdens and that over time their birds could become sicker and less productive as a result.”
For advice about the use of Flubenvet® or other products in protecting your flock from worms, ask your medicine prescriber – your veterinarian or suitably qualified person.

Flubenvet® 1 % Medicated Premixture contains 10mg/g flubendazole. It is prepared from Flubenvet® 5% w/w Premix for Medicated Feeding Stuff, legal category POM-VPS, which contains flubendazole 5 % w/w, Vm number 00242/4056.
