16th August 2006.

The most advanced Private Centre in Europe for the treatment of Cancer in Dogs and Cats.

VRCC the Essex based 24/7 Referral Centre has opened its on-site Radiotherapy Suite housing their sophisticated Linear Accelerator ‘Linac’ and are now welcoming patients.

Dr Susan M North who leads the VRCC Oncology team is the most experienced and qualified Veterinary Oncologist in Europe. Trained in Radiation Oncology in the USA and gaining the prestigious and only formal qualification in Veterinary Radiation Oncology a number of years ago. There are only about 30 Veterinary Oncologists in the World and Dr North is the only one in the UK.

It has been Dr North’s goal since returning to the UK in 1997 to provide the very best and latest Cancer Care for Dogs and Cats especially in the field of Radiotherapy. Many treatments that up until now have not been possible because of limited facilities and access.

Many complex cancers can be treated effectively with radiation but these require multiple treatments often combined with chemotherapeutics rather than a single treatment a week. It was VRCC’s commitment to ensure clients have immediate access to the very best and latest Cancer Treatments at a single purpose built Centre that led to the establishment of VRCC in 2002 and now the installation of their ‘Linac.’

VRCC is the only private centre in Europe with a sophisticated Radiotherapy Suite and the first with a 6MV ‘Linac’ in the UK for Veterinary Radiotherapy Treatment. They have a full Oncology Team on-site and have comprehensive leaflets on both Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy available for their clients.

Ends.
