Sharon Curtis and Sweep Sharon Curtis and Sweep Royal Canin has announced the winner of its ‘Pet Health Counsellor of the Year’ Awards 2012. Sharon Curtis, an Advanced Pet Health Counsellor (PHC) from Rosemary Lodge Veterinary Hospital, Bath, was crowned champion at the national industry award ceremony. Royal Canin presented Sharon with £1,500 worth of high-street vouchers at the annual ceremony, which celebrates veterinary professionals for promoting preventative health care and running pet health clinics in practice. The Bath-based PHC, who beat off 17 other finalists, was chosen by world-renowned animal behaviour expert Sarah Heath for her work in rabbit spa days, mobility clinics and her advice sessions on geriatric pets. She was also recognised for her outstanding contribution to the community for regularly visiting local primary and secondary schools to teach children about responsible pet ownership. Royal Canin’s Veterinary Sales and Marketing Director, Andrew Doyle, commented: “It’s been great to see so many fantastic entries for this year’s awards but the work that Sharon does for her community shone through for the judges. The Royal Canin Pet Health Counsellor scheme was set up to encourage Veterinary Nurses to advance their professional development and over 1,500 have now attended our residential training courses. Becoming one of our PHC’s provides tools and training to enable them to set up effective clinics and services in their practice.” Sharon added: “I’m delighted to be Royal Canin’s Pet Health Counsellor of the Year. Their scheme has given me the confidence and skills to develop specialist clinics at Rosemary Lodge Veterinary Hospital, which have proved to be hugely beneficial in giving our clients the specific advice and training for their pets’ needs.” The ceremony took place at the De Vere Belton Woods Hotel in Lincolnshire in October.
