As we head into the ‘itchy’ season of summer, ROYAL CANIN is preparing veterinary professionals for the summer itches with its latest webinar on pruritus, running on Tuesday 30th May at 8pm. The webinar is being hosted by Dr Stephen Shaw BVetMed PhD DVD MRCVS, who will explore a simple and practical approach to managing pruritus in cats and dogs.

The ‘Preparing you for the summer itches’ webinar will cover diagnostic and management tools, including best practice in setting up a dietary challenge and the use of skin diets for pruritus cases. Stephen will use case studies and real-world examples to demonstrate the success of these methods.

Katy Smith, Veterinary Support Manager at ROYAL CANIN®, said: “Summer is a difficult month for pets, pet owners and veterinary professionals alike, with increased incidence of both parasitic and allergic skin disease causing constant itching and discomfort for cats and dogs. The ‘Preparing you for the summer itches’ webinar will offer specialist advice from past President of the British Veterinary Dermatology Study Group, Stephen Shaw, who is truly passionate about all aspects of companion animal dermatology. With the diagnosis and treatment of allergic skin being his area of special interest, Stephen will provide useful advice on the management of pruritus during the warmer months.”

Dr Stephen Shaw BVetMed PhD DVD MRCVS is an active member of the dermatology community. He teaches dermatology to members of the public, CPD groups and veterinary students and has recently set up national workshops to teach the investigation and treatment of pruritic disease. Steve qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1987. He spent 15 years at the Animal Health Trust before moving to his current location in the midlands to establish UKVetDerm. With a PhD in the Heritability and Immunology of canine Atopic Dermatits and the RCVS Diploma, Steve is an RCVS recognised specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. He is a past president of the British Veterinary Dermatology Study Group, Honorary Associate Professor in Veterinary Dermatology at Nottingham and he is the National Dermatology Advisor to Guide Dogs.
