Urinary stones are commonly encountered in small animal practice and, whilst relatively uncommon, urolithiasis is a significant cause of lower urinary tract disease¹. To help vets and vet nurses better understand these conditions and the treatment options available to their patients, ROYAL CANIN® is hosting two webinars on the subject of urinary care.

The webinar series ‘Deconstructing urolithiasis: One stone at a time’, will be split into two sessions, with both ‘Starting points and struvite’ (Tuesday 24 May at 8.30pm) and ‘Oxalate, urate and others’ (Tuesday 31 May at 8.30pm) being delivered by Cecilia Villaverde Haro. Cecilia will discuss factors from USG and pH through to precursors and inhibitors, as well as exploring the dietary management of each urinary stone type; both the common types where confidence in effective management should be strong and the rarer cases which can confuse and challenge.

Lee Danks, ROYAL CANIN’s Veterinary Scientific Support Manager, said: “Managing cat and dog urinary cases can be challenging at best. When faced with a urolith, we need to recount the many ways in which urine can be altered to increase or decrease the risk of crystals and stones precipitating. This webinar series hopes to assist us all on deconstructing our cat and dog urolithiasis cases, one stone at a time.”

Practice staff can register for the webinars for free by visiting: www.royalcanin.co.uk/uncategorized/webinars-2/. They are easy to join; all you need is a computer (with speakers) which is connected to the internet. CPD certificates will be made available online to those who attend the live sessions.
