Scottish RCO Wins £1000 In National Competition

Scotland region RCO, Fiona Reid, has won the annual Bayer Animal Health sponsored RCO of the Year competition. Fiona’s prize includes £1,000 to help fund future meetings and an additional £200 in vouchers to spend on herself.

Receiving her prize at this year’s BVNA Congress, Fiona said how pleased she was that all her hard work had been worthwhile and that this had been appreciated by her members. “It has also given me some ‘oomph’ to help me provide an even higher level of CPD for next year’s programme. I’d like to thank Donna Lewis, Kirstie Shield and the BVNA office staff for all their help and support throughout the year,” added Fiona.

The competition has gained in popularity over the past few years, with the number of entries steadily increasing.

Three runners-up were also selected and presented with £50 each in vouchers in recognition of their excellent portfolios and continued hard work. In no particular order, these were Steph Worsley (SNW), Janet Litten (Devon) and Samantha Morgan (South Wales). Both Janet and Samantha were runners-up in 2009 but were just pipped at the post by Fiona in what was a very closely fought competition.

RCO Team Leader Kirstie Shield said: "The BVNA Regional Co-ordinator of the Year award is a chance to recognise the hard work and dedication of the British Veterinary Nursing Association's regional co-ordinators. These nurses work tirelessly to ensure that local, affordable CPD is regularly available on a regional level to BVNA members and non-members, as well as keeping nurses informed of the work of the BVNA. Our RCOs are excellent ambassadors and their efforts are very much valued by their members and by BVNA council. I would like to congratulate Fiona, and our runners-up, Sam, Janet and Steph for displaying such fantastic commitment to their role and for providing our members with such a vital service.”

Bayer's Matt Frost re-confirmed the company’s commitment to the BVNA and agreed to continue the competition in 2011. He urged nurses to look out for, and complete the forms to win quarterly spot prizes of £25 vouchers or a free year’s BVNA membership.
