Ski Vets Win IPads From Ceva

Two delighted equine vets have each won an iPad 32GB 3G by being the fastest performers in Wii fit skiing and bobsleigh competitions, run by Ceva Animal Health at the British Equine Veterinary Congress (BEVA) earlier this month.

Lt Caroline Bullard from the veterinary hospital at the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray beat some hot competition to win the Bobsleigh with a time of 1:14:200 seconds while Catherine Mair from Fellowes Farm Equine Clinic in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire demonstrated some slick footwork and balance to win the downhill skiing with a time of 1:10:761 seconds.

The competitions were held to celebrate Ceva’s ongoing sponsorship of an annual Ski-PD trip for equine vets. The trip, held each January, combines first class Continued Professional Development (CPD) with some excellent skiing. The next one will be held in Ischgl, in the Silveretta area of the Austrian Alps near the Swiss borders, from 8 – 12 January 2012. The area is renowned for its extensive intermediate and off-piste opportunities.

The programme is designed for equine practitioners with a wide range of interests and is delivered by speakers with specialist expertise in their fields. The CPD will be spread over seven sessions, equating to three full days, and delegate participation in discussion is strongly encouraged.

Equine vets Justin Perkins, Dr Hans Wilderjans, Emily Haggett, Kate Allen and Chris Rea will cover a wide variety of topics including management of the maladjusted foal; imaging of the head using computed tomography; cases of poor performance in the equine athlete; osteochondritis; laparoscopic surgery; upper airway disease; aspects of the PPE; management of shock in horses and advances in the treatments of RLN.

There are still a few places on the Ski-PD course. For further information contact the organisers: Catherine@equinevetpractice.co.uk or henry.tremaine@bristol.ac.uk
