Surge In Nominations For PM Of The Year

Gyles Brandreth (compère), Cery Lawson-Tancred, Helen Sanderson (President of the Veterinary Practice Managers Association) 2013 saw a surge in the number of entrants into the Practice Manager of the Year category of the prestigious Petplan Veterinary Awards, with 144 entries being submitted. The figure has rocketed from 20- 25 entries in previous years. The overall winner was Cery Lawson-Tancred, a practice manager with Golden Valley Veterinary Hospital in Nailsea, Somerset. VPMA President Helen Sanderson was on the judging panel and presented Cery with her award on the evening. Helen commented, “We were delighted with the number of entries into this category this year and judging 144 entries was no easy task, particularly as the standard was so high across the board. Cery was a very worthy winner and exemplified all the qualities of an excellent practice manager – strong leadership and people management skills and the ability to pull everything and everyone together to keep the practice working efficiently and effectively. ‘We had lots of nominations from clients as well as members of the practice team this year, showing how much practice managers are appreciated for their efforts within and outside the practice. Many of the testimonials commented on the invaluable role of practice managers in setting the standards for client care as well as showing leadership and support to their team. It’s terrific that managers are increasingly being recognised for their efforts, particularly as they are often working behind the scenes and are often unsung. One of our goals at the VPMA this year is to really drive awareness of the pivotal and invaluable role that practice managers play in the success of a practice. We’d urge anyone out there that isn’t a member to join us and let’s aim for even more entries next year!”
