The 5th Pan Commonwealth Veterinary Conference, organised by the Commonwealth Veterinary Association and the Ghana Veterinary Association, will take place in Accra, Ghana on 21-25 March 2011.

The conference has an exciting, vibrant and informative scientific programme with sessions focussing on animal welfare, the future of livestock in Africa and advances in veterinary science. The role of women in livestock development, food safety and security, and zoonotic diseases will be discussed as will the alleviation of poverty, wildlife conservation, and aquaculture. The programme will be held in conjunction with a number of workshops and specialist sessions such as rabies, one health/one medicine and working animals. The programme aims to address the many issues that face all countries in a time of accelerated change and economic uncertainty.

His Excellency the President of Ghana will open the conference and the inaugural address will be given by Dr Bernard Vallet, Director General of the OIE. Important groups such as the OIE Regional Commission for Africa, the World Health Organization, the pan-African Veterinary Association and the World Veterinary Association will also participate and make a strong contribution to the success of this important event.

PCVC5 will be the first major international veterinary conference in ‘Vet2011: World Veterinary Year’ celebrating 250 years since the establishment of the world’s first veterinary school in Lyon, France, in 1761. The Conference holds something for every veterinary surgeon and you are invited to join what will be a most informative scientific programme and a great opportunity to meet many of your international colleagues.
