The Retired Greyhound Trust based in Peterborough has been awarded a £500 donation from the UK’s largest pet insurance provider, Petplan. The local rescue centre aims is to re-home greyhounds that have retired from racing at Peterborough. Amanda Ainsworth, Retired Greyhound Trust Welfare and Operations Manager said: “Every year the Retired Greyhound Trust works to find homes for as many retired racing greyhounds as possible. As we find over 4,000 homes for greyhounds each year, it is imperative that we raise sufficient funds to support this vital work.” “Petplan has always been a huge supporter of the Retired Greyhound Trust, as well as greyhounds, and we value that relationship and on-going generous support. We were absolutely delighted to find out that our Peterborough branch was chosen to receive the additional financial support from Petplan, and it will ensure that we can keep putting smiles on the faces of greyhounds that find their perfect forever home.” Working with more re-homing charities than any other insurer, Petplan helps fund the care of thousands of homeless cats and dogs throughout the UK. They offer four weeks free insurance to every owner adopting pets through the shelters it supports and also offers free insurance vouchers to visitors and supporters of the charities. Each month a prize draw is held from all the insurance vouchers issued and one charity benefits from the prize fund. Isabella Von Mesterhazy, Head of Marketing at Petplan commented: “We are pleased to be able to provide this donation to Retired Greyhound Trust, they do a fantastic job caring for dogs in the community. We also understand what a difficult time it can be re-homing an animal and are glad to offer new owners four weeks free cover to give them this extra peace of mind during the first few weeks of their pet’s life in a new environment. Having your pet insured is an important part of taking care of its future health.” Petplan is committed to aiding the valuable work that re-homing shelters do. Charities such as Battersea, Blue Cross and Dogs Trust are just a few of those that have benefited.
