Helping thousands of vets and vet nurses with nutritional advice over the years, the Hill’s Pet Nutrition Veterinary Technical Enquiry Line continues its tradition of providing free nutritional guidance. Building on its heritage of partnering with the veterinary healthcare team and providing high quality support, Hill’s announced vet Iain Grant’s appointment to lead the Hill’s Veterinary Technical Enquiry Service team.
Iain’s career history ranges from mixed practice in Yorkshire to completing a residency in oncology at the University of California, Davis and The Ohio State University, before taking a post as a clinical oncologist at the University of Liverpool - School of Veterinary Science. Along the way, he owned his own practice and trained in documentary film making in New Zealand. Iain said he is excited to apply all that he has learned so far in his new role. “With a demonstrated boundless enthusiasm for helping other vets and their patients, Iain is simply the right fit for this important role,” said vet Blake Hawley, Hill’s Managing Director in Great Britain.
Having used the advice line himself during his time in practice, Iain said he is proud to join the all-vet advisory team that offers help with some of the UK & Ireland’s most complicated nutritional conundrums.
“I want the advice offered by the Hill’s service to empower vets so they can make decisions about their patients,” Iain said. With often complicated clinical calls coming in from 9am to 5pm, five days a week and often making call-backs and writing up cases into the evening, it can be a mentally challenging role, but one that he said he relishes. “We endeavour to offer every caller a nutritional solution, however complex the case is. Where appropriate, a short, medium or long term nutritional plan will be developed in partnership with each vet,” he said. “We also encourage follow up calls. This is particularly important in cases with multiple pathologies, where potential developments require strategic prioritising and a long-term care plan.”
Helping others learn about the importance of pet nutrition is a passion that Iain has held dear since his residency, where he trained colleagues as part of his role. “The portfolio of Hill’s products, the staff and the quality of work that Hill’s people do is fantastic,” he said.
Hill’s mission to help enrich and lengthen the special relationship between people and their pets is one that Iain’s own philosophy already supports. “Animals need feeding anyway. So if it can be done to help maintain health, alleviate disease or reduce the dosage of medication required, why would you not want to do that?”
For any aspect of nutritional advice, the Hill’s Veterinary Technical Enquiry Line can be accessed by calling 01923 814444, where Iain or another member of the team will be happy to help.4297 views
