Winner of the Hill’s Drive Nutrition smart car, Una Conway (driving seat), with some of the Hill’s team at BVNA congress. For one lucky vet nurse, this year’s BVNA congress was particularly memorable, courtesy of Hill’s Pet Nutrition. That’s because Una Conway, RVN at Parklands Veterinary Group, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland, was the winner of the top prize in the 2012 Drive Nutrition Competition - a brand new Smart Car! Una was already over the moon to have won an all-expenses-paid trip to the congress in Telford, but was completely oblivious that she was also the winner of the car. When the announcement came, her shock and delight were obvious to everyone and it wasn’t long before the champagne was flowing and Una was excitedly checking out her new wheels (stationary, of course!). The Drive Nutrition Competition encouraged nurses to earn points by completing a wide range of various tasks, all with the aim of spreading the message about good quality nutrition for every pet, every time, as part of the standard veterinary consult. Thousands of nurses across the UK and Ireland took part, with everything from online trivia questions and games to handy tip sharing and photo competitions being employed to earn those precious points. A nurse with just one point could have walked away with a prize, but every extra point equalled a higher chance of winning. To boost their scores, Una and her colleagues logged on almost daily to play the games and answer trivia questions, as well as organising and taking part in Hill’s events. She may not have been top of the leader board, but Una agrees that all her hard work and dedication definitely paid off. Excitedly sat in the driving seat whilst the cameras flashed, Una couldn’t wait to share her luck; “I can’t believe this! I need to phone everyone!” Blake Hawley, MD of Hill’s Pet Nutrition UK and Ireland, made the announcement and handed the keys over to Una. “I couldn’t have hoped for a more lovely and deserving winner. Una, like all vet nurses, works so hard with a seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm. This competition was always about showing nurses how much they are appreciated. I am so thrilled to be able to hand over this car to her today”. Una may have won this year, but plans for next year’s Drive Nutrition competition are already underway and Una is firmly decided on whether she’ll be taking part. “I thought my chances of winning were slim to none, but look what happened to me! I’ll definitely be joining in again next year – other nurses would be mad not to as well – it’s really fun and you never know what you might win!”. Vet nurses can register at www.hillsvet.co.uk and www.hillsvet.ie to receive information about how they can get involved next year as well as access to a wealth of online resources.
