UK vets at Scientific Meeting UK vets at Scientific Meeting. More than 350 vets from 40 nations gathered in the South of France recently for Royal Canin’s annual Scientific Meeting. Vets from independent and group practices across the globe were invited to attend the ‘Dermatology: itching for a 15-minute solution’ event and official launch of Royal Canin’s Anallergenic product. The two day meeting held at the Congress Centre of La Grande Motte brought together international delegates to participate in interactive workshops and hear lectures from ‘The Skin Vet’ Anthony Chadwick BVSc CertVD MRCVS, Scientific Director of Health Nutrition at the RC Research Centre Vincent Biourge and a host of international specialists in small animal dermatology. Topics included client management, cutaneous microscopy, pitfalls in treating pruritus and the development of Anallergenic dry food; Royal Canin’s breakthrough in the dietary management of dogs with even the most severe dietary allergy. To launch the diet, Vincent provided insight into formulation and production as well as strong peer reviews and efficacy trials. Vets were then led on a tour of Royal Canin’s factory, laboratory, kennel and cattery facilities and witnessed the manufacturing process first-hand - from raw materials through to the finished product. A gala dinner was later held, providing delegates with the chance to share their learnings and let their hair down! Lee Danks, Veterinary Support Manager at Royal Canin, who hosted seven delegates from the UK, said: “The Scientific Meeting was a rare opportunity for the world’s veterinary profession to come together, share best practice and be encouraged to implement lessons learnt from the dermatology experts. “The meeting enabled us to demonstrate Royal Canin’s dedication to the improvement of skin care in veterinary practice. We were also able to launch Anallergenic to a global audience – with its unique protein source that has undergone a vigorous selection and quality assurance process, the diet provides optional nutritional support for adult dogs with both short and long-term skin conditions. Feedback from our guests has shown that the event was a huge success.” ‘Anallergenic’ contains both extensively hydrolysed proteins and a purified carbohydrate source, to best reduce any chance of allergic reaction. The diet comprises a unique protein source composed exclusively of free amino acids and very low molecular weight oligopeptides. It is also formulated with essential fatty acids to help support skin health and a complex of nutrients to help maintain the barrier effect of the skin.
