Veterinary Thermal Imaging (VTI) is hosting an equine thermography lecture series, delivered for the first time in the UK by Dr Tracy Turner. The event counts towards 18 CPD hours for vets, and there are a limited number of subsidised places available. He has served as an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois, and also at the University of Florida, and as Professor and Chief of Large Animal Surgery at the University of Minnesota. Dr Turner is one of only three veterinarians induced into the International equine Veterinarians’ Hall of Fame. “The interest in thermography has been growing amongst vets and other professionals,” says Helen Morrell of VTI, “and we are delighted to be able to welcome Dr Turner to the UK. His knowledge in this field is truly amazing and he gives seminars across the world. A comprehensive programme for the three day seminar has been drawn up, and we know that anyone who attends will be excited about the opportunities that thermography holds. Thermography can be used as part of the diagnostic process, for monitoring certain conditions, as part of a management programme to help monitor changes in performance horses and a lot more too.” Thermography is a tool used by an increasing number of vets and specialist thermographers that helps to detect minor temperature changes within the horse’s body using a specialist camera and the subsequent interpretation of images. This imaging tool is no more invasive than a conventional camera, but can be used, with veterinary surgeons, to help quickly and efficiently highlight problem areas. The seminar will run from 2nd-4th August and be held in Abingdon and Witney College. The comprehensive programme includes in depth information about thermal imaging FLIR cameras, thermal imaging and its integration into veterinary medicine, lectures on specific areas of equine anatomy, how to obtain images, routine thermal examinations, as well as a chance to see the latest research in this field, practical training and subsidised CPD hours. The VTI subsidised course for vets costs £150+VAT per delegate and there is an application approval process. The cost for other participants is £500+VAT. The fee includes food during the seminar, but attendees must book their own accommodation. People interested in attending should email [email protected]. There are a limited number of subsidised places available, plus discounts on a range of FLIR cameras for those who attend. “This is an amazing opportunity for vets, veterinary nurses, chiropractors, physiotherapists, farriers and other equestrian professionals who work with equine anatomy to find out more about the benefits before using our referral service, or investing in their own cameras,” says Helen, “of course, thermography can be used with a number of other species and, whilst there is a module on this, this seminar focuses on equine applications. However, as we are an all species service, we can provide training in these areas too.” For more information, please see www.veterinary-thermal-imaging.com, email [email protected] or call 0844 544 3314.
