A ground-breaking international symposium is taking place in Apt in the Provence region of France from 18 to 20 November 2010 to update veterinary professionals on recent research into the role of pheromones in human and animal communication.

Hosted by the Pherosynthese Research Institute to mark its fifteenth anniversary, the symposium is entitled Chemical Communication Among Living Beings and will feature renowned international specialists. These include Patrick Pageat from the Pherosynthese Research Institute, Professor Daniel Mills from the University of Lincoln and leading veterinary behaviourist Jon Bowen.

The symposium, which will be conducted in English, will cover cutting-edge topics including ‘semichemicals in birds – the example of MHUS in domestic chickens’, ‘the role of pheromones in canine communication’, ‘social communication in natural horse herds’, ‘chemical communication in pigs: possible applications for breeders and vets’ and ‘the human appeasing pheromone: an effective way to control stress in children’.

Registration for the symposium is free of charge if carried out before 15 September 2010, however a security deposit is required. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To register or for further information visit www.pherosynthese.com or email international.symposium@pherosynthese.com.
