The Bella Moss Foundation, which supports pets and their owners affected by MRSA and other serious infections also educates the veterinary profession on superbugs and preventative measures. BMF is pleased to announce the appointment of a new patron and two new vice patrons.

TV presenter Peter Purves has stepped up to the role of patron while TV vet Marc Abraham and Vince Hogan of Our Dogs have become vice patrons.

The Bella Moss Foundation was set up in 2004 by Jill Moss after her beloved Samoyed, Bella, became the first recorded canine to contract the human strain of MRSA. Since Bella’s death, the Foundation has helped educate and support hundreds of pets and their people worldwide.

Vice patron Vince Hogan comments, “I have been aware of the activities of the Bella Moss Foundation for a while and having worked closely with Jill more recently I appreciate the hard work and dedication that she puts in. I am delighted to become vice patron alongside Marc Abraham, with the esteemed Mr Purves as patron. I am sure we will all be able to progress the work of the charity in many ways.”

The Bella Moss Foundation stand at Crufts is being sponsored by Mill Pledge veterinary products and representatives from the company will be demonstrating how to dress a pet’s paw, amongst other essential skills for owners. Bella Moss Foundation has also invited students from Nottingham and Cambridge vet schools to attend to discuss hygiene in practice and the importance of preventing infection.

Max4Health will also be attending and will show visitors to the Bella Moss Foundation stand simple hand-washing techniques that can reduce the cross infection of bacteria between humans and animals. With the use of Glow Germ, a gel applied to hands prior to washing, it is easy to see how regular techniques fail as those bits not cleaned sufficiently will glow under ultra-violet light.

Emma a white german shepeard was hit in July 2008 by a car following orthopaedic surgery contracted MRSA, now fully recovered will be on the BMF stand to show visitors how well she is after months of fighting MRSA.
