In its second year, the awards celebrate the outstanding work, dedication and commitment of animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK and the charity teams, volunteers and employees that go above and beyond in their mission to improve animal well-being. Simon Masding, Petplan’s head of sales and partnerships said, “We are thrilled with the success of the second Animal Charity Awards. This year we received more than 5,500 nominations from adopters, charity staff and volunteers, an increase of over 2,000 compared to last year. I’d like to congratulate all of the winners for their outstanding support of the animals in their care who thoroughly deserve this recognition.” He added: “Animal wellbeing is central to all we do at Petplan. We work with over 1,500 animal charities and give over £2million to assist them every year. The Petplan and ADCH Animal Charity Awards is another way for us to support and recognise the teams and individuals at charities dedicated to improving the lives of animals.” Each winner received a cheque for £1,500 from the Petplan Charitable Trust to take back to their charities and use to fund their work to improve animal welfare. The winners for each of the categories are: Animal Charity Team of the Year Hope Rescue, Mid Glamorgan What really stood out for the independent panel of judges was the charity’s steadfast determination to save dogs in need and its promoted belief that every dog deserves a chance, no matter the age or medical history. Hope Rescue is one of the finest examples of the dedication and hard work that is going on in charities across the country, and a charity that cares deeply about every dog it rescues. Animal Charity Volunteer of the Year Ann Knowles, Katz Castle Animal Shelter, Surrey The judges highly praised Ann’s genuine enthusiasm and dedication to the welfare of the cats in the charity’s care. To have volunteered for 50 years in support of general cat care is extremely admirable and Ann’s specific support at Katz Castle has gone a long way to ensuring cats are rehomed with sensitivity and accurateness. Ann’s efforts have further spurred her children to become involved with the charity and they now all work together on the team. Animal Charity Employee of the Year Jenna Martyn, Blue Cross Burford Rehoming Centre, Oxfordshire Jenna’s passion and commitment that she shows to the horses in her care when nursing them back to health and ensuring they are matched perfectly with their new owner really caught the judge’s eyes. Even when the unit gets tough cases, Jenna wholly devotes her time to helping them flourish and find a new owner. For further information go to www.petplan.co.uk/charityawards
