This one day course will use evidence based veterinary nursing to take the stress out of unwell and unusual anaesthesia cases. Anaesthetic risk can only be fully understood once the disease pathophysiology, implications of each condition and individual patient idiosyncrasies have been considered. Using up to date studies, you will be provided with the knowledge, and confidence, to deal with the trickier anaesthetic candidates presented to first opinion practice.These lectures will guide you through the use and application of monitoring equipment, including blood pressure, capnography, and electrocardiography (ECG), as well as discussing the effects of common anaesthetic drugs on patients with various conditions.Topics to be covered:Monitoring equipment and troubleshooting; knowing what is normal can help to identify problems quickly, and knowing how to fix these problems will reduce your stress levels dramaticallyRabbit and rodent anaesthesia; dealing with the more common of the exotic mammalsNeonatal and geriatric considerationsCardiac cases; how drug choices affect our anaesthetic risksCommon emergencies; including urethral obstructions, caesarean sections, splenectomies and gastric dilation and volvulus
