Young, energetic and lame!Participate in this interactive, case-based day and update your knowledge and approach to the lame adolescent dog in order to diagnose affected patients early and to improve long-term prognosis.The most current practice to detect, assess, and manage canine developmental orthopaedic joint diseases in growing dogs will be presented and discussed. Early diagnosis is crucial, because of the risk of irreversible changes in the affected joint with delayed diagnosis.Clinical signs can be subtle, and are not always obvious to the owner, therefore the veterinarian has an important role in screening adolescent dogs, especially elbows, hips and knees for orthopaedic diseases.Topics to be covered include:Learn how to assess the adolescent lame dog for orthopaedic joint diseasesBecome familiar with the newest updates around the pathogenesis and epidemiology of canine hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, medial and lateral patellar luxation, and osteochondrosis/ osteochondritis dissecans (OCD)Be able to discuss treatment options and prognosis of common developmental joint pathologies of young dogsGet insight into special considerations of surgery and aftercare of canine juvenile and adolescent orthopaedic patients
