Date: Monday 17th September, 2018 - Monday 17th September, 2018
Start time: 10:00 AM - 5:30 PM
Cost: £195

This one-day CPD course will discuss emotional development in puppies and consider ways in which veterinary practices can play a role in optimising the process in their patients. The importance of appropriate advice for breeders and new owners will be covered and advice given as to how to present this information in an effective way. The specific issue of neutering will be explored and the potential benefits and pitfalls of surgical neutering in relation to behaviour will be discussed. The aim of this course is to encourage general practitioners to make the most of their unique level of contact with breeders and new owners in order to optimise emotional development in their canine patients. Emotionally stable dogs will live more successfully in a domestic environment and therefore be able to stay in their homes and remain patients of the practice for a lifetime.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED INCLUDE:

Optimising the emotional development of puppies in order to avoid later behavioural problems
Appropriate advice for breeders – leading to more emotionally stable litters
Pre-purchase clinics for new owners – advising on smooth transition from breeder to new home and beyond
Neutering and influence on behaviour – when is it a good idea and when not?
