Practical Local Anaesthetic Blocks in Dogs and CatsThe use of local anaesthesic drugs as part of a multimodal approach to analgesia is commonplace in human medicine; they reduce the time patients spend in hospital, accelerate recovery and improve patient satisfaction. Peripheral nerve blocks can be quick, simple and inexpensive to perform. Despite this, the veterinary profession still relatively under-uses local anaesthetics. This course will cover how and when to use common peripheral nerve blocks in the limbs and head in dogs and cats. Starting with theory lectures before moving onto canine cadaver based practical sessions allowing delegates the opportunity to apply the theory learned, develop their practical skills and gain confidence in these procedures. There will also be some case-based discussion and an opportunity for delegates to discuss their own experiences.Topics to be covered include:How to perform common peripheral nerve blocks for use in orthopaedic, soft tissue and dental procedures. How and when to perform a lumbosacral epidural nerve block.Revision of how local anaesthetic drugs work, including the complications and contraindications associated with their use.Cadaver-based practical sessions.Case-based discussion when to use the nerve blocks youve learnt.www.centralcpd.co.ukwww.vet-ecpd.comCOURSE DATE:Tuesday 25th June 2019COURSE TIME:10.00am - 5.30pmLECTURER:Frances Downing and Heide KlppelPRICE:£495.00 VATADDRESS:The Clinical Skills Lab Manor Place, 204a Manor Place, Kennington, London.
