Ophthalmic examination has long been a slightly dark art for many in practice, with a confusing array of instruments and techniques mentioned by ophthalmologists.
So how can you overcome these challenges and accurately diagnose the clinical conditions that present to you in first opinion practice? On this small group practical course all will be revealed.
This hands-on course will help you learn how to perform a thorough clinical ophthalmic examination. You will see, play with and have demonstrated the correct use of all the standard ophthalmic instruments. Equipment ranges from the simplest pen torch, up to and including slit lamp biomicroscopes, head worn indirect ophthalmoscopes, applanation and rebound tonometers. Learn how to use them all correctly, with hands-on help from our expert and approachable tutors.
After a mixture of lectures and practical demonstrations by the course tutors you will practise the clinical techniques you have learnt on live patients. There will also be the opportunity to purchase some of the equipment present on the course.
Specific areas to be covered:
How to perform a complete ophthalmic examination – the correct sequence
How to examine different species presented during a normal clinical day
How a direct ophthalmoscope works and how to use it
Practical tips for indirect ophthalmoscopy – what can you see?
