Nurses deal with wounds every day in practice, from surgical incisions to traumatic wounds presented in an emergency, and they can be rewarding cases if managed correctly. Wound management requires a good knowledge of the stages of wound healing to ensure accurate assessment and the appropriate management for each specific stage. With such a wide range of wound dressings and bandaging material available, knowing what to use and when is also a key skill in ensuring successful outcomes and supporting the processes involved in wound healing rather than impeding them.This practical one-day course aims to give you the skills needed to approach these cases with confidence starting with lecture based sessions on wound classification and the key stages involved in wound healing before moving on to a step by step approach to management of different wounds and hands on experience in a range of bandaging techniques.Topics to be covered include: Pathophysiology of wounds and wound healing Traumatic wound management initial assessment, lavage techniques, open wound management Surgical wound management how to maximise healing potential and advise clients Practical workshop: Dressing selection what to use and when to use it Practical workshop: Bandaging techniques -with focus on techniques for thoracic and pelvic limbs
