Date: Saturday 29th September, 2018 - Sunday 30th September, 2018
Start time: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM
Cost: £815

Equine Practitioners are regularly confronted with poor performance-related questions, such as: My horse has started to make a noise during exercise and struggles to keep up with the other horses; what do you think is causing it? Do we need to investigate my horse’s reluctance to be ridden and problems with lateral work or do you think that this is a training-related issue? Evaluating horses for poor performance can be a daunting task because different conditions may present with similar clinical signs, leaving vets wondering where to start the investigation.

This 2-day practical course covers the most common causes of orthopaedic and respiratory poor performance in sports horses, how to recognize them and to decide if they are clinically relevant. The topics of managing the horse with back/sacroiliac pain, how to devise tailor-made rehabilitation programs for musculoskeletal conditions and physiotherapy of the horse with upper front- and hindlimb problems and back/sacroiliac conditions will be discussed. Indications and usefulness of chiropractic therapy, acupuncture and pulse, lactate and GPS tracking as training and rehabilitation tools will furthermore be reviewed.

In the afternoons, 7 hours of practical sessions will allow attendees to further their practical skills on live horses in small groups (3-5 attendees per endoscope). The following practical sessions will be supervised by the specialists during the course: Upper Respiratory Endoscopy (incl. overground endoscopy); Static physiotherapy (strengthening) exercises for Back / Sacroiliac & Upper Limb Conditions; Chiropractic Therapy of the Horse; Dynamic (strengthening) exercises for Back / Sacroiliac Conditions & Locking stifles; Acupuncture Therapy of the Horse; Poor Performance Case Discussions
