Start time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

This course will teach GP vets how to approach the most common emergencies in companion animal practice with the least stress possible. It has been designed for vets returning to practice after a career break and will provide tips and tricks on how to cope with (and enjoy handling) companion animal emergencies.

We will discuss the general approach to emergencies, including how to deal with clients. I will provide tips on how to decrease stress levels and develop strategies to cope with difficult situations. We will then discuss clinical refreshers with case examples and specific scenarios.

Three main patient groups will be studied:
• The trauma patient
• The poisoned patient
• The dyspnoeic patient

The five key things delegates will learn from this course are:
How to deal with severely distressed clients
How to get more confidence in dealing with companion animal emergencies in general
How to stabilise a severely ill patient
How to use diagnostic tools to confirm your diagnosis/suspicion
How to deal with all kinds of intoxications

Who is it for?

This course is aimed at all General Practitioners, but course is tailored especially towards colleagues who return to work after a longer absence. New graduates would benefit from tips and tricks on how to cope with emergencies.
