This practical workshop is tailored towards vets working in practice who wish to improve their current gastrointestinal surgery, advance their skillset and reduce complication rates. Principles and theory are covered in a morning of lectures, including an anatomic tour of the abdomen, decision-making in the vomiting dog, techniques of enterotomy, enterectomy, gastrotomy, GDV and gastropexy, and finally management of surgical complications. An afternoon practical cadaver-based wetlab session allows you to practice these surgical techniques under the supervision of course tutors.

Learning Outcomes:

Understand the indications for, and demonstrate the practical skills required for gastrointestinal surgical procedures, including gastrotomy, enterotomy, enterectomy, surgical management of gastric dilatation and volvulus and gastropexy.

Develop the clinical skills to correctly identify and manage common post-operative complications in cases of gastrointestinal surgery.
