This 100% online CPD mini-module has been developed and aimed towards the more experienced veterinary surgeon. The module content has been developed by veterinary specialists at the forefront of current veterinary research.The module will provide you with 25 hours of designation specific CPD. Over four weeks we will cover a different weekly topic in an area in which there may have been changes, advances or controversy in recent years.The course is taught and tutored by Liverpool and other external veterinary specialists, following a similar format to the University of Liverpools CertAVP modules. With online lectures, discussion boards and weekly MCQ tests designed to help support your learning this short Equine Practice mini-module will provide a fun and interactive way to ensure you keep up to date in your area of interest. Course content: Week 1: 7 March 2022The latest in the diagnosis and long term management of Equine Back pain Speakers - Cajsa Isgren, Anna Ehrle & Suzanne CottriallAs we increase our knowledge base around this growing orthopaedic issue in Sport Horses we will bring you right up to date on whats new and successfully helping horses with this condition. We start with a lecture on the Anatomy of the back: Is it more than Kissing Spines. Following this will be a detailed lecture on the Conservative v Surgical management of back issues. Finally, we will prepare you to give your owners detailed advice on the rehabilitation of horses with back pain post treatment. Week 2: 14 March 2022Updates in Endocrinopathic Laminitis: Treating the horse is only half the battleSpeakers - Joanne Ireland and Tamzin FurtadoWe continue with an in depth look at the current and relevant knowledge and literature around this topic. We will bring you the most relevant data on recognising, testing and dealing with laminitic horses and ponies. And, in a new and exciting development we will have a lecture on how to work more closely with the owner/ client to educate them further about the causes of this debilitating disease and practical methods to get owners to comply with management changes and treatment options to prevent it recurring. Week 3: Break week Week 4: 28 March 2022Targeted practical imaging of the Equine athlete: Techniques for identifying intrathecal lesions in the DFTS, Practical ultrasound of the stifle, advanced radiographic techniques to assist disgnosing injuries in the racehorseSpeakers - David Stack and Chris BaldwinThis week we do a deep dive into further techniques for identifying specific intrathecal lesions in the digital flexor tendon sheath - US including off-incidence, oblique and non-weight bearing views and positive contrast tenography to increase diagnostic sensitivity of DDFT, MF and PAL lesions. Following on there will be a lecture on ultrasound of the stifle. Practical screening US of the stifle including identification of OA, meniscal injury, synovitis, OCD and chondromalacia. And finally we will take you through radiographic techniques to improve diagnosis of common injuries in the racehorse - Special oblique radiographic views to highlight racehorse specific injuries including POD lesions, slab fractures and bone disease Week 4: 04 April 2022Bring me hot water & towels: Equine Reproductive Field EmergenciesSpeaker - Alex GillenTo finish the mini module and to put you in a very strong position heading into the next breeding season we will have a week on dealing with common and some not so common reproductive emergencies that you may face in the field next Spring. We know that these are some of the most serious emergencies that we face as practising vets and having in depth knowledge of the dos and donts in these types of emergencies can be the difference. We aim to provide this for you and help you to feel confident when faced with this situations.
