This 100% online CPD mini-module has been developed and aimed towards general first-opinion practitioners as as a refresher rather than the experienced advanced practitioners. The module content has been developed by veterinary specialists at the forefront of current veterinary research.

The module will provide you with 25 hours of designation specific CPD. Over four weeks we will cover a different weekly topic in an area in which there may have been changes, advances or controversy in recent years.

The course is taught and tutored by Liverpool and other external veterinary specialists, following a similar format to the University of Liverpool’s CertAVP modules. With online lectures, discussion boards and weekly MCQ tests designed to help support your learning this short Equine Practice mini-module will provide a fun and interactive way to ensure you keep up to date in your area of interest.



Course content:


Week 1: 27 February 2023

Fracture first aid with Chris Baldwin BVetMed CertAVP (ESST) MRCVS

Chris will be discussing all things fracture first aid in this informative week, offering practical advice and guidance to the approach, stabilisation and treatment of many commonly encountered fractures in practice. The week will be a practical refresher for those of you dealing with these cases in the field and will be rounded off nicely with a case-based live discussion.



Week 2: 6 March 2023

Imaging updates of the neck with Alison Talbot BVM&S CertEP CertES(Orth) Dip ACVSMR MRCVS

This week will look at recent EBM advances in diagnostic imaging of the cervical spine of the horse. We will discuss and critique current knowledge and examine areas where there are still further questions to be answered. We will also examine how equine clinicians can use this information to enhance their management of equine neck cases, even if advanced diagnostic imaging is not available.

Week 4: 20 March 2023

Making the most of clinical pathology with Catriona MacKenzie and Charlotte Easton-Jones

Cat and Charlotte are both RCVS Recognised Specialists in Internal Medicine, working at Rossdales in Newmarket. This week they will combine their immense knowledge to give practical tips on sample handling and interpreting basic haematology and biochemistry as well discussing clinical pathology in the equine emergency and the value of point of care testing. The week will finish with a case based discussion covering test selection and sampling advice, rounding up nicely this fundamental area of practice.



Week 5: 27 March 2023

Nutrition refresher with Nicky Jarvis and Sarah Stoneham BVSc CertESM MRCVS

Nicola, the Head of Veterinary and Care at Redwings will cover the practical nutrition of the senior horse and Sarah’s lecture is a nutrition refresher, “Myth busting and top nutritional tips”. There will be a friendly, interactive case-based discussion looking at common nutritional challenges in practice.
