The module will provide you with 25 hours of designation specific CPD. Over four weeks we will cover a different weekly topic in an area in which there may have been changes, advances or controversy in recent years.The course is taught and tutored by Liverpool and other external veterinary specialists, following a similar format to the University of Liverpools CertAVP modules. With online lectures, discussion boards and weekly MCQ tests designed to help support your learning, this short Small Animal Medicine mini-module will provide a fun and interactive way to ensure you keep up to date in your area of interest. Course content: Week 1: 7 March 2022New treatments for mast cell tumoursSpeaker Dr Chiara Penzo DVM PhD Dip.ECVIM(Oncology) MRCVSMast cell tumours are the most frequent malignant neoplasia in dogs. Mast cell tumours often presents a surgical and treatment challenge. In a first lecture you will have the opportunity to review the approach to treatment of mast cell tumours through practical algorithms. In the following two practical lectures Chiara will illustrate the indications, techniques and efficacy of electrochemotherapy and intralesional therapies such as the use of tigilanol tiglate. Lectures will include how to gain a better understanding your in-house analyser and how to quickly check a smear routinely, even unstained initially, for specific pitfalls and cell features your analyser cant readily identify. Roger will also cover fluid analysis and standardising your prep and analysis to identify infection for rapid intervention, as well identify atypia for specialist examination; and for skin bumps and lumps, ensuring your harvest is diagnostic before the patient leaves, as well as the commoner important differentials. Over the course of the week, a series of test yourself cases will be also presented on an interactive discussion board, to give you the opportunity to practice your cytology skills in a fully supported learning environment, with a veterinary specialist on hand to guide you and share some tips and tricks.
