Successful management of these patients requires rapid recognition of respiratory distress, stress free handling of the patient and timely interventions Determining the cause for respiratory dysfunction is key in treating the patient appropriately.During the lecture, we will discuss:Basic anatomy and physiology of the respiratory systemUpper respiratory tract diseasesLower respiratory tract diseasesTriage of the respiratory distress patientMethods of oxygen administrationCase based scenarios of patients suffering with respiratory distress including details of how these patients were managed

The Speakers

In 2006 Jessica started her career as a part time receptionist role before being offered a full-time position in 2007. After qualifying as an animal care assistant, Jess went on to complete her diploma in veterinary nursing and qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2013. In 2014, Jess was offered the opportunity to work at Northwest Veterinary Specialists as an inpatient care nurse which she did for 18months before transferring over to join the internal medicine team. During her time working at Northwest Veterinary Specialists Jess has developed a passion for emergency and critical care and in 2016 she achieved the CertVNECC. Over the past 2 years, Jess has been working towards becoming a veterinary technician specialist in emergency and critical care andpassed her exams in September. Jesss long term goal is to work in an intensive care unit.
