This course focusses on diagnostic techniques for clinical or subclinical muscle conditions and how to manage them medically, nutritionally and through physiotherapy (incl. therapeutic modalities). Day 2 of the course covers training and performance protocols aimed at preventing/managing muscle conditions in equine athletes and at enhancing their performance. The internationally renowned panel of clinicians consisting of Erica McKenzie (Oregon State Univ., USA), Cathy McGowan (Univ. of Liverpool, UK) and Heli Hyytiinen (Univ. of Helsinki, Finland) have spent a significant portion of their careers focussing on equine muscle conditions and how to best manage affected horses. Between both afternoons there will be 5 hours of practical sessions on live horses and specimens in small groups (2-4 vets / ultrasound machine) and 2 hours of interactive case-discussions with the speaker panel. Each attendee will get plenty of opportunity to further develop his/her skills at the following stations: Examination of the muscle system, acquisition of muscle biopsies, ultrasound of the back/pelvic muscles, applying therapeutic modalities, physiotherapy exercises & muscle conditions case-discussions.
