Making a diagnosis of CKDManaging CKD - is it just about the diet?Opening the sieve - glomerular disease and how to treat itAbout this course Chronic kidney disease is a common problem seen in small animal practice particularly in cats. Although the condition can rarely if ever be cured, a patients life can be significantly extended by strategies aimed at preventing further damage to nephrons. Misconceptions remain however, about what management strategies are most effective and why.This online course will run over four weeks. Important questions will be raised and discussed including: Which pets should we be screening? Why bother about blood pressure? Why change the diet? Cant I just use a phosphate binder? What if they wont eat the diet? When to recommend a biopsy?Learning material will be a mixture of two hour weekly webinars (which can be viewed live and/or as recorded versions thorughout the course), online case assessment exercises, supplementary reading material and discussion forums involving the tutors and veterinary colleagues from around the world. Participants can earn up to 16 CPD hours. The course may be of interest to candidates studying for the RCVS CertAVP Small Animal Medicine C module (C-SAM.9).
