This is an exciting opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the expanding discipline of oncology. This internship is designed to prepare the candidate for a residency although desire to pursue as residency is not a prerequisite. In the Intern role, you can expect to work 48 hours a week, getting involved in a variety of shifts, involving day shifts, weekends, out of hours etc.

The Oncology department at Pride Veterinary Centre is currently comprised of one clinician, an ECVIM–CA (Oncology) Diplomate, one discipline specific intern and two veterinary nurses. Rotating interns and students from the University of Nottingham rotate through our hospital. We work closely with our colleagues in other teams. Our current case load for Oncology varies between 4 and 8 new cases a week plus c 15-20 chemotherapy patients currently. We are seeing approximately 80% dogs and 20% cats. The service works alongside various disciplines: internal medicine, surgery, neurology, anaesthesia, ophthalmology, dermatology, exotics and cardiology. We are located at the edge of Derby city centre with good transport links to major cities via road and rail network. East Midlands Airport and Birmingham International Airport offer convenient access to domestic and international destinations. The beautiful Peak District is just around the corner.

Applicant Requirements:

• Two years of clinical experience in general practice and/or would have performed a one-year rotating internship
• Member of the RCVS
• Good English Language, both verbal and written
• Good communication skills
• Be able to work efficiently and understand the time constraints
• A strong interest in Oncology is highly beneficial

As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
