Abbey Veterinary Centres

Amanda Williams

ABERGAVENNY, Monmouthshire, United Kingdom

Abbey Veterinary Centres are looking for a locum in the small animal department to join our team between start of April until the end of August 2021.

The Practice

Our RCVS accredited, well equipped small animal clinic is situated in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire on the edge of the Brecon Beacons (45 mins drive from Bristol and Cardiff). We also have branches in Monmouth, Brecon and Tredegar

Our team consists of 13 full time equivalent vets including certificate holders in medicine, surgery and cardiology. At all branches we have on-site Abaxis laboratory machines, CR digital radiography and ultrasonography (including Doppler at Abergavenny). We employ Royal College RVNs at all sites and are an accredited RCVS and training practice. We are privileged to work with an excellent team of skilled and friendly nurses and support staff

The practice aims to provide a high standard of service, excellent clinical care and a happy, supportive working environment for our staff. We have a large, loyal client base with a significant number of insured clients allowing you to provide gold standard care for your patients. Our main site is based in Abergavenny and has 24 hours a day on site nursing care provided by our own nurses. The role will require flexible working between all our branches.

The Role

Your time will be spent working at our main clinic in Abergavenny with occasional cover at our branches. Independent sole charge of a branch would be expected but always with back up available.

We believe our staff are our most important asset and we aim to provide working hours and a rota that is sustainable and allows both case continuity and the opportunity to have a life outside of work. A work life balance is encouraged by:
• 4-day week (8.45-7pm)
• 1/5 Saturdays working with another vet at our main site (8.45-7pm)
• Ideally inpatient only night on call 1/5 (negotiable). 24-hour on-site cover by RVN leading to minimal call outs.

What we are looking for

This is a position designed specifically for a general practitioner - a locum competent in consulting, surgery, dentistry, medicine and emergency roles. All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK, registered as a MRCVS and have a full UK eligible driving license.

Our practice ethos is to provide a high standard of clinical care in a friendly environment. We therefore require a candidate who wants to join a supportive team, displays good communication skills and a flexible, committed attitude to small animal first opinion practice who will enjoy the benefits working in an independent practice brings.

Remuneration package

• Competitive rates. Vets must either use an approved VetPartners Umbrella company or work via a fixed term contract.
• Accommodation can be provided (included in remuneration package) in Abergavenny (shared accommodation) or Brecon (2-bedroom self-contained flat above the Brecon surgery).
• An insured practice vehicle can be made available by arrangement (Practice van or Kia Sportage) - pay own private mileage.

For further information about the practice please view our website, Facebook page or contact Amanda. Please apply with CV and covering letter.
