Six Mile Bottom, Cambridgeshire, United KingdomDevelop your career with DWR and be part of something special!
We have an exciting opportunity for an RVN to join our Cat Ward Team working in our busy, purpose-built hospital that is fully equipped with the surgical equipment and diagnostic facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary hospital.
At DWR the Cat Ward Nurses are responsible for nursing feline patients from all disciplines. This includes Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Soft Tissue and Dermatology.
The Cat Ward Nurses work closely alongside each other, to ensure there is always good communication across the ward, and a high level of patient care at all times. Each day is different, due to the large variety of cases we see.
The main nursing tasks a dedicated Cat Ward Nurse is expected to carry out include but are not limited to:
• Attending ward rounds to help get a detailed understanding of the patient’s history, results and treatment plan for the day.
• Invoicing all inpatients in the ward, ensuring each patient has charges added for the day.
• Carrying out hourly treatments including tube feeding, blood pressure monitoring, drainage of urinary catheters, administering oral and IV medications, wound care, fluid administration.
• Recovering patients from GAs, procedures and surgeries.
• Helping Clinicians/Residents to admit and examine patients, place IV catheters and take blood samples.
The Cat Ward Nurses may also be required to carry out procedures in the ward including placement of Naso Oesophageal Feeding tubes, urinary catheter placements, freestyle monitor placement, Holter Monitor placement, dressing changes and wound care. The Cat Ward Nurses will ensure that all patients are kept comfortable with the current ward capacity being up to 20 patients per day.
This position will suit an RVN with a keen interest in feline patients, who is willing to learn and develop their knowledge of feline nursing in a referral setting.
Please note this position involves working between the hours of 6.30-18.30 and 1:5 weekends. The suitable candidate will also be flexible enough to rotate into both our Canine Surgery Ward and Internal Medicine Ward to cover occasional shifts.
Due to spending the majority of time in Cat Ward, the Nurses really get to know the patients and take a lot of pride and care in their ward! Feline nursing at DWR is demanding and it can be busy, but it is an incredibly rewarding job.
As you would expect from one of the largest veterinary referral centres in Europe, we offer an inspiring and friendly working environment together with career development opportunities and an attractive benefits package.
If you share our passion for delivering excellence, trust and care then we would love to hear from you.
