
Permanent Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse Independent Practice Derby

We are working with an independent veterinary practice in Derby who are currently recruiting for a qualified veterinary nurse to join them then in a Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse role. This position will involve assuming a level of responsibility to assisting in the efficient running of the nurse and student nurse teams.This will involve providing management, performance reviews, training, and coordination for all staff members of relevant level. You will need to be able to work professionally with the team and maintain a happy, efficient, and proactive working environment across the practice.
Key Details:
Type: Small animal only
Hours: 40 hours per week between 8:00am & 7:00pm each day
Weekends: 1 in 5 weekends to be worked on rota basis
Sole charge: None required
OOH: None required
Branch work: The practice do operate over 2 branches, some work will be required at both
Team: 4 Vets & 8 Qualifies Nurse and many support staff

2 well equipped branches with facilities that include digital x-ray, ultrasound, in house laboratory and much more
Main duties:
• Supervise and monitor the quality of patient and client care
• Promote practice services and assist with managing practice finances
• Liaise with Head Nurse and nursing teams to ensure effective lines of communication at all times
• Assist in the recruitment and selection of nursing staff
• Run nurse clinics
• Carry out laboratory work
• Carry out discharge of surgical cases
• Perform post op consultations
• Place IV catheters and obtain blood samples
• Carry out blood pressure checks
• Assist in interesting surgical procedures
• Monitor and provide treatment to overnight and day patients
• Triage and assist with emergency procedures
The Person:
This role would be suitable for a qualified veterinary nurse with at least 2 years’ experience working in UK practices, with a positive and motivating work ethic. You will need to have full RVN experience and be comfortable with all nursing skills and procedures. It is essential that you are comfortable working alone and able to provide a high standard of patient and client care.
Ideally you will have strong leadership and management skills with some past experience to demonstrate. Mainly the ability to remain calm, sole problems, use initiative and hand difficult situations is key.
The Package:
Salary between £25,000 and £28,000 per annum DOE
