We are looking to recruit an RVN with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care to join our A&E department based in our state-of the art veterinary hospital. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and pay high attention to detail.
We offer a supportive learning environment for our nurses – CPD is encouraged and funded. Many of our nurses have achieved or are working towards certificates in further studies (emergency and critical care, anaesthesia, surgery, and/or advanced diplomas). We host regular in-house CPD, hold ‘Clinical Club’ meetings every 3 months and the nurses were heavily involved in us achieving Hospital Status with the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (we are also working towards multiple awards).
A&E and hospital services are provided for both internal clients and surrounding user practice clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A typical candidate should have:
- Significant experience as an RVN in small animal veterinary practice (2+ years as a guide)
- An interest in medicine and ECC; possibly with the desire to achieve further qualifications
- Passion for supporting others and engaging in constructive communication
- Confidence in decision making, able to think fast and be dynamic during our busiest periods
This is a full-time position – Approximately 35.75 hours a week.
With an inclusive and flexible approach to all opportunities but it would typically entail:
- The shifts are 9pm-8.30am (with half an hour break) 10-13 nights per month Currently the rota is 6on, 7 off, 7 on, 8 off but we are open to discussions
- RVN sole charge from 1am-7.30am-there is a veterinary surgeon on the premises all night and an auxiliary nurse
- There are opportunities to pick up other shifts if desired as well as the option to cover annual leave for the other night nurses
- The night nurses have a varied role- providing triage and care to our A&E patients, assisting the veterinary surgeons with any investigations and/or procedures and taking care of the in-patients
- Support our evening receptionists by providing advice and triage to clients calling the hospital. Arranging appointments where appropriate
- Salary £26K - £32k + dependent on experience and number of nights worked
