Job Title: Head Registered Veterinary Nurse
Location: Hertford, Hertfordshire
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time or Part-time
Hours:
- Full-time: 40 hours a week
- Part-time: 30 hours a week
- No Out of Hours
- 1:3 Saturdays with time off in lieu
Salary: £31,000 - £35,000 GBP
Team Structure: You will be leading a dedicated team that includes:
- 1 Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
- 2 Veterinary Care Assistants (VCAs)
- A full-time receptionist
- A practice manager
- 2 veterinarians
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the nursing team, providing mentorship and support.
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to all patients.
- Assist veterinarians during surgeries and medical procedures.
- Oversee the monitoring and care of hospitalized patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
- Perform diagnostic tests, such as blood tests and x-rays.
- Educate and advise pet owners on animal health, nutrition, and preventative care.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with veterinary standards.
- Participate in reception duties and client communication as needed.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment within the practice.
- Collaborate with the practice manager to optimize operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with a recognized qualification.
- Proven experience in a similar role within a veterinary practice.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge.
- Leadership and team management experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Compassionate and caring attitude towards animals and their owners.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience with a variety of animals including exotics.
- Additional certifications or specializations in veterinary nursing.
- Familiarity with practice management software.
