About us

The role

Medivet Hendon is looking for an advanced orthopaedic/soft tissue Surgical Vet to join the team in our large hospital in North London and work alongside our surgical team including one other orthopaedic/advanced soft tissue Surgeon and two soft tissue Surgeons. We have all the kit for TPLOs/other orthopaedics, spinals, arthroscopy, laparascopy, endoscopy, CT + MRI etc and need a surgery certificate holder or above to help us use it all. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who is interested in partnership and taking control of their own caseload, and will be coming into a 12 vet hospital with a range of very experienced colleagues, including two medicine certificate holding Branch Partners. This is an opportunity to seriously increase your earnings, be your own boss and shape the future of the practice alongside the other partners.

Rewards and Benefits:

- Salary up to £80,000-£95,000 dependent on experience, increasing with partnership - 4 days a week, fixed day off and 1 in 6 weekends.

- 4 weeks' paid sabbatical (after each 5 years of service) and 5 weeks' annual leave (6 weeks for partners) - Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Pay - £1,500 CPD Allowance plus 3 days CPD leave (FTE) - RCVS, BVA and VDS fees paid - Vehicle allowance or Company Vehicle - Accommodation allowance

We also offer relocation allowances should you move more than 50 miles from your current home address.We can also support Certificates of Sponsorship for a Tier 2 (General) Visa if you meet the criteria and are eligible to register as a veterinary surgeon with the RCVS upon arrival in the UK.

Key accountabilities

Skills and experience

- Extensive experience in small animal surgery, including ability to perform TPLO/TTAs or equivalent, spinals, fracture repair and complex soft tissue (eg. perineal urethrostomy, TECA, BOAS, thoracotomy) - Surgical certificate or above - Willingness to mentor keen surgeons within the practice - Commitment to evidence-based clinical practice - While this is not a consulting role, clear and empathic client communication is essential

Medivet Hendon 24-Hour is a bustling hospital, it has recently been recognised as one of London’s best Veterinary practices.

The successful candidate will be joining a highly experienced team led by our established Branch Partners who combined have 25 years experience, as well as the Head Registered Veterinary Nurse with 15 years experience. Including certificate holders or those currently undertaking a certificate. The hospital also possess a highly skilled and experienced nursing team, with 6+ RVNs, a dedicated reception and night team to see your cases through the night on site as well as 10 vets on rota daily. 

It houses an MRI/CT unit and so treats many interesting neurology, medicine, surgical and other cases. Additionally, Hendon 24hr is equipped with endoscopy, arthroscopy, digital x-ray, MiLab X7 ultrasound, multi-parameter monitors, in-house bloods, dental radiology and much more! The group is also supported by its own pet blood bank, laboratory as well as other services. Hendon also has a spacious garden, seperate cat and dog wards, two dedicated staff rooms, a close link to the station as well as a friendly and sociable team who enjoy their team nights out.

It supports Medivet clinics in all of Northwest London but also the whole of Southern England, with interesting and complicated cases.
