Alma Veterinary Hospital have a great opportunity for an experienced Head Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly dedicated team at our recently refurbished Hospital in Windsor. We are looking for a candidate that is keen to work closely with our Practice Manager to take the next step into a more managerial role with a potential of becoming the future Clinical Director. In addition to clinical work you would be involved in decisions regarding clinical protocols and governance, development of the business and veterinary team, veterinary surgeon appraisals and continuing to encourage our wonderful team to provide the best standard of veterinary and client care possible.
Our rota involves working an average of 40hrs/ week. This is worked over four days Monday- Friday and a 1:6 weekend and Saturday morning rota. In addition, you would be required to take part in our inpatient on call rota which ensures we can provide excellent care 24/7 to those patients in our Hospital. Emergencies overnight are diverted to our dedicated emergency care providers at Vets Now.
IVC provide a generous Clinical CPD budget, alongside the possibility of a 2-week IVC CD Leadership and Development training course. Regular quarterly CD/PM meetings are held and in addition, regular Clinical Board, Marketing and Financial updates.
Our Hospital is conveniently located in the royal town of Windsor, which has excellent transport links, to London the M25/ M4 /M3 and Heathrow. We are extremely lucky that our town provides the perfect combination of town and country, offering a great selection of shops, country walks/activities and a large selection of lovely restaurants and bars.
We are a well are equipped, recently refurbished Hospital with: digital radiography, ultrasound, ECG, laparoscopy, bronchoscope, videoscope, fully equipped laboratory, capnography, a dental suite with dental x-ray, a fully equipped operating theatre, an imaging room and 4 consulting rooms, with all the normal necessities for a first opinion Hospital. We have a separate dog and cat wards and waiting rooms to help minimise stress to our patients. We have a range of loyal clientele, which brings with it a wide and varying caseload. Many of our clients are insured which offers great opportunity to work to the gold standard of care we all strive for.
We have a visiting referral orthopaedic/advanced surgery Vet, who joins us on a need to basis to perform advanced surgeries for us in addition to our semi-retired previous CD Paul, who now works with us twice a week performing more advanced surgeries and providing a wealth of medical and surgical knowledge and experience to support the vet team. We also have a very experienced senior surgeon Tiago whom holds a surgery certificate working with us every third week to perform more advanced procedures/ assist with medical cases and support junior vets to increase their skills. Plus, our very experienced senior Veterinary Surgeon Melanie whom is a medicine certificate holder.
We offer 15-minute consultations as a minimum with extended consults for more complex cases. The diary is organised with plenty of room for appointments, emergencies/on the day appointments, breaks, catch ups and time for phone calls.

We believe discussing cases and sharing opinions extremely important and actively encourage openness and teamwork, but also give Vets the freedom to work up their own cases as they see fit.
We are very lucky to have specialists such as Hamiltons, The RVC, The Ralph, and Fitzpatrick referrals all within an hour’s distance from the practice for those more complex cases requiring specialist attention.
Applicants should have extensive experience in both a surgical and medical caseload with a desire to mentor others and lead by example. You should be motivated, enthusiastic, dedicated, have great communication skills and strive for clinical excellence. Commitment to the practice is important, and proven ability to work as part of a team.
You would be working alongside our experienced PM, Senior RVN’s, and IVC Business Support Manager. Therefore, this role would suit either a candidate with management/ leadership experience, or someone completely new to a management role.

Salary £50,000-£65,000 dependent on experience + future potential of a CD bonus of up to £15k/year dependent on the progress of clinic.
