Derby, Derbyshire, United KingdomAbout the practice
Here at Pride, we are one of the largest providers of veterinary care locally. Our principal site is on Pride Park, Derby, where we provide first opinion treatments plus referral services for our own clients and other practices. We have our own dedicated night team and 12 local practices who provide quality care, with well-equipped on-site facilities and lots of returning customers who want that friendly team feel.
This role will support the Pride Veterinary Centre with occasional cover at local practices. Our 1st Opinion Vet team is another example of the Scarsdale Vets culture of being supportive, passionate, caring and professional. Our Vet team are supported by a team of practice nurses. Although we have an organised plan and structure for the daily consults, events happen and things change. This is when this team proactively adjust and adapt their workloads to ensure most importantly that emergency cases receive immediate care while our existing customers for that day aren’t overly inconvenienced by any changes. You will need to be confident in making decisions, and happy to mix with different teams and build relationships quickly.

You will have case continuity from consulting with the client to managing the pet in wards, carrying out diagnostics and treatment through to discharge and ongoing care. This role will involve the usual routine procedures for pet care and maintenance but there will also be frequent situations where the route to the prognosis could be an interesting journey. You will expand your knowledge and skills by working closely with other members of the first opinion and referral teams. The hours for this role are an average of 43 per week, approx 1:6 weekends and no OOH.
Client facing skills are integral for this 1st Opinion Vet position. We have a regular returning customer base so naturally having the skills to build long term relationships is an asset. Required skills and experience include experience in small animal work, great client communication skills, the ability to make decisions, prioritise and delegate, commitment to continuous development.
