The Role

Treforest Vets are looking for a small animal, first opinion Vet to join our friendly team! We are looking foremost for someone easy going, who can fit into our team. The role can be flexible - medical, surgical, imaging or dental biases can be supported - you tell us what you're looking for!

The shift pattern for full-time is 38 hours across 4 days per week on a fixed rota day off per week, with 1:3 Saturdays and time back in lieu. No out of hours work. We are happy to accept part time applicants with the view to work 2/3 days per week.

Our staffs’ work/life balance is very important to us, we run 15-minute consults, with catch up time blocked off during the day and the last consult booked 45 minutes before the end of the day, so there’s a chance to leave early! We all appreciate this career comes with a chance of a late stay on occasion, so we think a regular slightly early finish helps make up for this.

Salary

The salary for this role is up to £60,000 depending on experience.

About Us

We have two branches, both purpose-built to run independently and fully equipped to care for patients if they need a workup. We have excellent facilities in both branches, such as in-house blood, CR, ultrasound, and surgical capability, to name but a few. We are in a beautiful location - easily commutable from vibrant Cardiff, with the Brecon Beacons to the North and glorious beaches to the South.

Our biggest asset is our positive, friendly, and engaged team. Staff feedback and staff-led changes see us constantly evolving our services and diary! We currently have 8 vets (2 of these are part-time), 9 Registered Veterinary Nurses + 1 Student Veterinary Nurse, and a growing support team of 9+, with others across reception and our care assistants. We have one vet working towards a surgical certificate, and we are supporting others in working towards their preferred specialties.

3 of our RVNS were trained in-house and are still with us and we haven't had any permanent MRCVS team members leave for over 5 years. We are very proud of this, we strive to create a positive ethos, giving our staff a balanced workload, in our modern, small opinion practice – we like to think of our staff as a family, not just colleagues!
We love getting together for a team outing, and before COVID hit this included cocktail making and escape rooms. We were glad to get out recently and go Ziplining, and now rules are relaxed our next plan is Axe-Throwing!

Our issue right now is that we are busy, as a business we work better when our team gets more time to do a better job and you could help us achieve that again!

Applicant Requirements

We're looking for someone who has worked in a small animal, first opinion environment, even if this was short-term or you may need support to get going again. We are also open to candidates who are more experienced, who are looking to take the next step in their career and develop more specific aspects of their skillset. Most of all we are looking for someone who can settle into our friendly team - our practice is focused on giving a high-quality experience across the whole range of medicine and surgery.
