House Surgeon/Intern
Three Counties Equine Hospital will have several positions for an enthusiastic new or recent graduate to start a fixed-term 18-month House Surgeon/Intern position, starting from January 2024 onwards.
We are a friendly first opinion ambulatory and referral hospital situated on the Worcestershire, Gloucestershire & Herefordshire borders. Our interns work as part of our fantastic hospital team under the supervision of senior clinicians, including diplomats in equine internal medicine and surgery. There may be the opportunity to attend some ambulatory calls. We are a rapidly expanding practice, and have recently increased our house surgeon team from 4 to 5 and adjusted our emergency rota to promote work:life balance.
The hospital-based role includes assisting with:
- A diverse in-patient caseload, including intensive care of adults and neonates
- Diagnostic imaging, including radiography, endoscopy, ultrasonography, scintigraphy & MRI
- Anaesthesia, surgery and standing surgical procedures
- Poor performance and lameness investigations and treatment
- AI of approximately 50 mares during the stud season
Continuing education is provided with individual mentoring, weekly journal clubs and regular ‘in house’ CPD training. In addition, involvement in research projects is actively encouraged and supported by senior clinicians and the VetPartners clinical research team.
