Overview: Dear sir,
I am Danilo Castellano and I am writing to you in order to apply for the position of surgical intern at Pride Vet Centre. I am finishing a rotating internship at the North Downs Specialist Referrals in January and I would like to continue my career as a surgeon in the future. I chose to be a surgeon before I graduated in 2016, because of this I started to work as a volunteer in the shelter of my hometown, Teramo in Italy, to improve my skills in spays, castrations and sutures of the wounds. Almost two years ago I moved to the UK with this dream, to join very busy general practices but, even if I performed routine surgeries every day, I always wanted to become a specialist, so I decided to start this way.
I also put my commitment in the CPDs that I attend, which are about surgery, anesthesia and radiology and my project is to begin a certificate next year. This year, during my rotating internship, I wrote a review about tarsal injuries in dogs and I am still writing another article, a clinical conundrum, about anal sac adenocarcinoma in a dog. Moreover, I attended seminars and journal clubs in different disciplines, which were given by specialists. This shows my passion and the wish to study surgery and a surgical internship would be very inspiring to study more and write other papers.
I have an interest in animal reproduction too, so in October 2020 I finished a course that lasted tree years at the University of Teramo (Italy), about reproduction, discussing my thesis: Intra and postoperative complications in laparoscopic ovariectomy. This was a simple study which showed that the risk with this procedure is almost zero. I chouse this subject, in collaboration with a colleague in Rome, to learn the technique of laparoscopy, which is the future of the veterinary surgery. Anyway, even if soft tissue surgery is very interesting, my main interest is orthopeadics, branch in which I’m trying to improve, studying and following the lectures of the specialists in my practice and other referrals.
I know that working with you could allow me to improve as a vet, as a person and to obtain the residency. I am very motivated to achieve these results and I hope to hearing from you soon.
